Witness testimony aided authorities in the Florida Keys in the arrest last Friday of a 35-year-old man on charges of hit and run, fleeing and eluding, as well as reckless driving. According to authorities, the man rear-ended another vehicle with his SUV before allegedly leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase. As of the most recent report, the man was in jail following his apprehension.

The initial accident reportedly happened near mile marker 54 on the Overseas Highway. The driver allegedly refused to comply with authorities’ attempts to pull him over. Instead, the SUV allegedly took off. The SUV and pursuing law enforcement allegedly reached speeds of 114 miles per hour before law enforcement reportedly lost sight of the SUV.

Shortly thereafter, authorities received a 911 call from another motorist reporting a sighting of the SUV on Little Torch Key. It appeared that the driver attempted to hide the vehicle behind a bush, where authorities found it after arriving at the scene. Upon receiving reports from witnesses claiming that the driver of the SUV ran into a nearby resort after exiting the vehicle, authorities allegedly looked behind a small privacy wall on the resort property and reportedly found a man matching the SUV driver’s description. The arrest occurred shortly thereafter.

It is unknown whether the party whose vehicle the SUV driver allegedly rear-ended sustained any injury as a result of the reported collision. The consequences that the SUV driver faces if convicted are also unclear. It may be a good idea for those facing charges related to reckless driving to contact an attorney.
