Motorcyclist charged with reckless driving, fleeing from police

On Aug. 10, a Florida motorcyclist was arrested after he allegedly fled from police and engaged in reckless driving. The incident took place in Clearwater at about 12:30 a.m.

According to the Clearwater Police Department, an officer spotted two dirt bikes traveling westbound on Memorial Causeway at a high rate of speed. Neither of the vehicles had license plates or lights. The officer attempted to execute a traffic stop, but both motorcyclists reportedly refused to pull over and split up, heading in different directions. Soon afterward, the defendant, age 19, was observed driving his 2003 Yamaha motorcycle the wrong direction on a roundabout and repeatedly weaving on and off a sidewalk, risking the safety of pedestrians. He then headed for Pier 60 where he was eventually apprehended.

The defendant was transported to the Pinellas County Jail for processing. He has been charged with fleeing and eluding, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license. According to media reports, he had previously been charged with fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a tag. He had also been previously pulled over for driving without a driver's license and driving on a suspended or revoked license.

Individuals who are ticketed for traffic violations could have points added to their license or even have their license suspended. However, defendants may be able to obtain a better outcome by contacting an attorney who handles traffic cases. The attorney may assess the case and work to develop a traffic violation defense to fight the charges. In some circumstances, it may be possible to get the points removed from a defendant's license or prevent a defendant's license from being suspended.
